In December last year, manganese ore shipments from Australia's Port Hedland totaled 125,291 metric tons, decreasing by 17.03 percent from 151,000 metric tons in November and up 2.70 percent compared to the same month of 2012, according to the monthly data released by the Port Hedland Port Authority.

In December, manganese ore shipments made from Port Hedland to China amounted to 70,591 metric tons, decreasing by 53.25 percent month on month and by 1.96 percent year on year. South Korea was the only other export destination apart from China in the given month, receiving 54,700 metric tons of manganese ore.

Port Hedland handles production from mines owned by BHP Billiton, Fortescue Metals Group and Atlas Manganese in the manganese ore-rich Pilbara region of Western Australia.
